Common Name : Pacman Frog, Ornate Horned Frog
Scientific Name : Ceratophrys Ornata

The Ornate horned frog, also known as the Pacman frog, is the most common species of terrestrial frogs native from the rain forests of Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. Ornate horned frogs are usually bearing the color of bright green, brownish red, and yellow blotches and spots.

Their mouths are as wide as their heads and they have a strong jaws and a wide tongue. Pacman frogs are famous for eating anything that fits in their large mouth and swallowing prey as large as themselves. In the wild, these frogs spend most of the time burrowed beneath a wet surface waiting for preys.

They are lazy, they don’t normally move and they can’t jump too high and all they do is to eat and sleep with their eye open. Males are known to grow between 2.5 – 4.5 inches while females grow from 4 – 6inches in snout vent length. Only the male Pacman frog will chirp, or croak typically in calling out for a mating partner.

Where do I keep them ?

Since, you can never put them in community or they will tend to eat each other. I keep them in a 10 gallon tank individually with 1/2 in of water, pebbles and Moss. I do sprinkle water once in a while to keep the humidity.

What do I feed them ?

Small fish, Crickets, Super Woms, Blatta Lateralis and Grass Hoppers.

Hi sir tattoo,

Yap it is a 1-2 week old mice. normally i feed my pacs some meat once every few months to make up for their nut and vits requirments. normally are fish as feeder for their mass needs.. Smile had bad experience with feeder frogs. IMO , pacs do not do well with feeder frogs . Smile

thank you sir for your nice words Smile

to be frank, it is reali very challenging to rear this cute litte froggie .. even tot they just sit and wait for their next meal always.

battle of getting a nice deco tank for housing this frog vs smiple setup due easy cleaning and maintaince always battle in my mind,
i always like my animals to be housed as close to their natural habital but sad to say that these "natual" setup don't always work out well in own home. plus the daily clean of the nature habital would be of hard work to clean.

so far i have go for the simple setup as i believe that health and clean env is more important in the success of keeping this frog..
but once a while i was hoping i could get a setup on natural deco / look so that i am able to put the specimens in it for photoshop once awhile lol... but again .. it seems like cheating lol.. :P

what do you think guys... ??

lol ...
